Cautions and warnings:
Do not use pure essential oils. Essential oils are diluted in a vegetable oil when applied to the skin. Carry out a skin tolerance test in the crook of your elbow and wait 48 hours before using the oil on the skin. Do not use the essential oil if you notice a reaction such as redness, itching or stinging.
Keep out of reach of children.
If accidental ingestion occurs, seek urgent medical attention or contact a Poison Control Center.
Avoid contact with eyes and mucous membranes. Essential oils should not be applied to the eyes, the eye contour area, neither into the ears. In case of contact, apply a plenty of vegetable oil and take promptly medical advice.

This organic essential oil of cardamom from Sri Lanka is distilled from small seeds found in the pods produced by the flowers of the plant.

A great ally for digestion, its delicious aroma is reminiscent of India and neighboring countries.

Origin of this essential oil

Organic essential oil of Green Cardamom from Sri Lanka obtained by steam distillation of fruits (pods).

Properties

It is used for bowel dysfunction.

More information

Cardamom is also called green cardamom or Malabar cardamom.

In Latin, it also has several names: Elettaria cardamomum, Alpinia cardamomum or Amomum cardamomum.

It is a plant that can measure up to 2 m in height and whose seeds are harvested.

The seeds are in a green capsule which contains approximately 10 seeds.

It is from the Zingiberaceae family (like ginger, turmeric, galangal or zedoary for example).

It should not be confused with black cardamom (Amomum subulatum).

  • It is one of the oldest spices in the world.
  • It is native to the west coast of India (Malabar Coast), in the “mountain of the cardamoms”, from 750 to 1500 m altitude, with an annual rainfall rate greater than 2500 mm.
  • Used in Antiquity to make perfumes (Egypt).
  • It's a panacea of ​​Chinese medicine.
  • It has an intense aromatic power (one seed spices up one kilogram of food).
  • It is one of the ingredients of betel quid.

Main components of essential oil

  • Esters: alpha-terpinyl acetate 28-50%, 4-terpinyl acetate and linalyl acetate 1.6-7.7%
  • 1.8 cineole (eucalyptol) 2-44%
  • Sesquiterpenol: nerolidol 1-2%
  • Monoterpenols: linalool, borneol, terpinene-4-ol, alpha-terpineol
  • Citrals: geranial (citral a) & neral (citral b) 0.5 to 1%
  • Terpenes: 2-14% limonene, 3-5% sabinene, beta-phellandrene, myrcene, alpha-pinene, camphor, humulene, carvone, beta-caryophyllene, menthone
