Cautions and warnings:
Do not use pure essential oils. Essential oils are diluted in a vegetable oil when applied to the skin. Carry out a skin tolerance test in the crook of your elbow and wait 48 hours before using the oil on the skin. Do not use the essential oil if you notice a reaction such as redness, itching or stinging.
Keep out of reach of children.
If accidental ingestion occurs, seek urgent medical attention or contact a Poison Control Center.
Avoid contact with eyes and mucous membranes. Essential oils should not be applied to the eyes, the eye contour area, neither into the ears. In case of contact, apply a plenty of vegetable oil and take promptly medical advice.

This organic essential oil of lemongrass (or East Indian Lemongrass or Malabar grass) releases an invigorating lemony scent.

It is a powerful anti-inflammatory, it has its place in the synergies treating rheumatism, tendonitis and arthritis.

It also regulates excessive sweating and integrates well with a deodorant and is eventually added to sanitizing household products.

Well diluted in a suitable vegetable oil, it repels mosquitoes and eventually calms their bites.

Essential oil obtained by steam distillation of the aerial parts of organically grown lemongrass in India.

Properties

Anti-inflammatory, it is also known to tone blood circulation and relieve muscle pain.

Widely used as a repellent against mites and other insects.

Also indicated in case of exhaustion, melancholy and nervous tension.

Cautions

Keep away from children, air, heat and light.
  • Always use it very diluted in a neutral vegetable oil.
  • Avoid applications on the face and/or in the sun.
  • Contraindicated in pregnant women and children under 6 years old

Also known as East Indian verbena, Indian lemongrass, Indian lemongrass, East Indian lemongrass is a herbaceous plant from tropical regions, growing in dense tufts, with powerful roots, with ribbon-like, narrow and lanceolate leaves, with shaped peduncles. branches, slightly fragrant (1.5 m high).

 

Several plants of the "Cymbopogon" species are rich in essential oils, we can mention among others:

The Cymbopogon caesius which is the brown lemongrass or Kachi grass.

Cymbopogon citratus which is lemongrass (true) or Indian verbena.

The Cymbopogon martini which is the palmarosa or Indian geranium, ginger grass or Rosha grass".

The Cymbopogon nardus which is the Ceylon citronella.

 

It is part of the Poaceae family which was formerly called Grasses.

 

Lemongrass essential oil has shown skin anti-inflammatory, anti-herpetic, anti-bacterial, sedative and hypotensive properties.

 

This oil can be dermocaustic and is contraindicated in pregnant women and children under 6 years old.

 

Main components of essential oil

  • Monoterpene aldehydes (60-85%) Citrals: geranial (= citral a): 45 % and neral (= citral b): 25 to 30 %, citronellal < 1 %
  • Monoterpenols: alpha-terpineol 2 to 3%, borneol 2%, geraniol, nerol, citronellol
  • Sesquiterpene aldehydes: farnesal 3%
  • Monoterpenes: camphene 1%, limonene
  • Sesquiterpenes: beta-caryophyllene 1.5%, gamma-cadinene
  • Ketone: sulcatone 0.3 - 1.4%
